If you are a trader in the market, you
must be in excellent physical shape. You’re watching multiple monitor screens all day. You’re looking at news, charts, chat rooms, spreadsheets and order execution forms on these screens. You must be totally alert and have a strong body to endure this kind of activity for 6 - 12 hours per day. Trading is extremely stressful, and, if you are not in shape and you are overweight, you are risking experiencing many health problems, including possible heart attacks and strokes. Exercise is very important to your body and cardiovascular health.
Every muscle in our bodies needs to be exercised daily. It’s hard to believe that most traders don’t exercise at all. The ones who do it only do it occasionally. The reason is that our bodies are not programmed to exercise on a regular basis. One health book says that, physiologically speaking, we will always take the easy way out and not exercise if given the choice, and I believe it. Many traders, including me, understand the importance of exercising. We have tried going to the local fitness club and that did not work out because we don’t have two hours a day to spare. It takes 30 - 60 minutes of commute time plus the time to exercise.
Many of us have purchased a treadmill and tried to use it over time but found that it is too boring. When we get home after work, we don’t want to spend our time on a boring treadmill. We will usually relax, eat dinner and watch a movie or something on TV or read.

What you can do is simply replace some of your regular TV time with exercise on the treadmill watching the new 19-inch Samsung Surround Stereo LCD on a fitness stand. This system finally makes exercise enjoyable. The quality of the LCD is so good, it is almost like being in a theater. Using it the last 6 months, I have lost 55 pounds, going from 215 to 160 pounds, and I am in much better shape.
As a result, my body is better able to take the stress of trading.
Now, my routine is to use the treadmill with the LCD on the fitness stand at least two times a day. When I get up, I use it for 30 minutes watching CNBC. Later, after work, I’ll get on it for 45 - 60 minutes and watch some more CNBC, news or some special interest channel, such as HGTV or the food channel. I might even watch a movie. Having cable TV allows me to find something of interest during my exercise times. It is finally now enjoyable to get the exercise my body needs.
Before you start any exercise program, you should always contact your doctor and get a stress test and diagnosis to make sure the exercise program is right for you personally. But, once that's done, you'll find that exercise will help you to be a better trader.
