eSignal -- Trading from the Charts

One of the features offered with the trading integration functionality (see April 2010 Issue) is the ability to place buy and sell orders from within the Advanced Charts.

You can use this function through eSignal Paper Trading or by using the broker integration with one of our approved partners.

Buy and Sell Buttons

Trading directly from the charts is possible using the Buy and Sell buttons. You can find these buttons in the Advanced Chart toolbar or in the drop-down menu when right clicking the mouse anywhere inside the chart.

Using the Buy and Sell Buttons

To place an order using this method, right click the chart and click the Buy or Sell button. For example, if you click the Buy button, a Stop Buy line (in green) will appear if your cursor is above the bid / ask price, or a Limit Buy line will appear if it is below the bid / ask price.

Conversely, if you click the Sell button, you'll see a Stop Sell or Limit Sell line (in red) depending on whether your cursor is above or below the bid / ask price. Left click to set the Buy or Sell Order Ticket. In this window, you can set additional details or make changes to the existing order, as well as set the defaults.

Once your order has been filled, you will see a "position line" (marked Open) indicating Long versus Short, along with profit / loss (P / L) status. The position line will change from red to blue, indicating a profitable position (see second image shown below).

The position and working orders in the chart can be easily managed. Any of these orders can be adjusted with a single drag and drop. For instance, to move the stop to break-even, simply grab it and drag it to the position line. You can cancel any pending order or open position by clicking on the "X" on either the position or order line.

Account Manager

Another way to modify or cancel orders is through the Account Manager window. Through this window, you can monitor orders and positions, executions, accounts and messages.

As you can see below, the orders and positions in the chart are recorded in the Account Manager.
