eSignal -- Using Pages

The eSignal workspace consists of a variety of window types, which can be saved in a single file known as a Page. In this article, we will focus on how to create, save and make changes to your Page.

After installation, eSignal opens with a default Page. You can edit the default page or start with a blank page by clicking Page > New Page from the main menu. From there, click File > New and select from the many window types, which include Advanced Charts, Quote windows and more. Once the Page is configured (window size and other custom settings), you'll need to Save the Page using the steps outlined below.

Saving the Page

  1. Go to Page / Save page As…

  2. The Save Page As window will open showing Save in: Pages. The file will be saved in the following Directory -- C: / Program Files / eSignal / Pages.

  3. Enter a filename of your choice and click Save.

  4. The filename will display in the title bar and in the drop-down menu under Page.

The name of the new Page will be added to the drop-down list under Page in the menu bar and in the Title bar of the program.

Saving Changes

There are two methods to save the changes in an existing page: Select Page in the menu bar and click Save Page, or go to File and click Exit All & Save. The second method will save the changes and close the eSignal program completely. We recommend the first method -- to save the changes as the Page gets modified.

How do I re-open a chart window that was closed by accident? Is there a way to restore the Page?

Using pages means that you are using one single file to save all the windows in your workspace. Whether you are using one chart or 10, all those windows are part of the Page file; they are not files. With that said, there is no way to re-open a window that has been closed by accident.

In the unlikely event that a chart window is closed by accident, the only two ways to get that window back is by reloading the Page or by closing the program without saving changes. The Page will reload, or reopen, exactly as it was the last time it was saved. To reload the page, click Page / Reload Page. And, to exit the program without saving changes, close the program by clicking the "X", and say "NO" to the question to save the Page.

Restoring the Page
You can also use this process in the event that something happens to the Page, and you do not want to restore it. With that said, it is important to save the Page as it gets modified or changed.

How can I delete Pages?

The safest way to delete Pages in eSignal is by clicking Page in the menu bar and selecting Open Page. An Open Page window will appear, listing all existing Page files within the Pages folder. Right click the mouse over the Page file that you wish to delete and click Delete from the drop-down menu. This is the safest way because you can delete only one Page at a time.

You can also delete Pages directly from the Pages folder located under, Computer / C: / Program Files / eSignal / Pages. The window looks similar to the one shown above but allows you to select multiple files and delete them all at once.

How can I create a backup of my eSignal Page files?

We recommend that you create back-ups for the Pages you have created and update those back-up files as the original Page files get updated. You can create a backup of a Page by saving that Page file in a different directory in your PC (My Documents or the Desktop) or to an external device (flash-drive memory or an RW-CD).

How can I transfer the Page files to another PC?

Page files are easier to transfer from one computer to another because you only have to transfer one file per Page. You can use a flash drive or CD to transfer the files, or you can attach the Page files to an email message and send it to another PC. If the Pages being transferred contain charts with EFS formulas not available in the program, those formulas must be transferred as well.

If users are switching computers and have several Pages, different time templates, style templates, customized formulas and other default settings that they would like to preserve, they can transfer the whole eSignal directory, using a flash drive or disc and set it up in the new PC under C: / Program Files before installing the eSignal program. During installation, eSignal will find that folder and use it as the default.

Backing up the eSignal folder

To back up the whole eSignal Directory, open Windows Explorer, look for the eSignal folder, right click on the folder and select Copy. Then, look for the drive that contains the device in which you will be backing up the folder (e.g., Removable Drive (D :)), right click the mouse over that drive and select Paste; the folder will be copied into that drive.
