Data Hibernation
Data hibernation is the ability for the eSignal Pro application to put symbols to sleep that aren’t being used. For example, if you had a Quote window that had 120 symbols on it, but only 30 lines long, you will only receive data for those 30 symbols. Ninety of those symbols will be hibernating until the point at which they become visible on your screen. This can dramatically lower the amount of data eSignal Pro is processing and that is being downloaded from the eSignal servers, thus increasing the efficiency of your eSignal Pro application's data usage, especially important in peak volume times.

The data hibernation algorithm implements many safeguards to ensure that your use of eSignal Pro is not affected by this change. Any symbols in Advanced Charts are never hibernating because the processing of EFS files may still need this data. Also, any symbols with alerts set on them are never hibernating. Likewise, if global alerts are turned on, the user has the choice of receiving alerts only on visible symbols or on all symbols; the latter choice would disable hibernation.

Data HibernationData hibernation enhancements include a greyed-out color scheme for symbols that are in hibernation to differentiate them easily from symbols that are not hibernating. The last quote for the hibernating symbol displays (rather than being hidden) and the data for the quote continues to update every 5 minutes in the background. This allows for even greater symbol limit, CPU and memory savings than before because only those symbols that are not hibernating are subscribed to for real-time data.
